Excel Power XL3500i 3.2KW Inverter Generator

The Excel Power XL3500i inverter generator is a great size at over 3kW – this generator fits between the industry standard of 2kW and the larger 4kW generators that are too big for some applications. This compares well to the Honda EU32i but with different features and a more friendly price tag. 

Fully designed by the UK team at Excel Power this petrol generator has some features not found anywhere else at this size (and price) – such as the extendable handle and wheels. This is the perfect choice if you need more power whilst caravanning or camping.

Like all the Excel Power Inverter Generator Range, the XL3500i generator has a pure sine wave output. You will have no trouble with powering your electronics or charging the gadgets.

Power rating of the Excel Power XL3500i

The XL3500i generator has a useful maximum rating of 3200W and a continuous rating of 3000W. This gives more scope for powering a wider range of devices.

The maximum rating of this XL3500i is 3.2kW is the most this generator will provide for a short time to ‘start’ things. Some devices have a starting current that is higher than its running current so this allows for that*. This generator will run comfortably at 3kW as its ‘continuous’ rating but run it at a higher load and it will trip out. 

If you need more power or want some spare capacity then have a look at the Excel Power Generator XL4000ii or even the biggest, grandest inverter generator available – the XL8000ii.  

If you find that you can live with a lower powered generator then the smaller Excel Power Generator XL2200i is an excellent machine and the smallest of the range XL1400ii will keep the lights on and devices charged. 

You may need an alternative fuel and the XL3500i is available in a dual fuel version called the XL3500i-DF,  you can enjoy even cleaner and cheaper power. 

XL3500i Electrical connection

The XL3500i has a UK standard 3 pin socket which means no adapters are required – this generator was designed in the UK for use in the UK! 

It does have a European ‘blue’ schuko style socket so euro plugs can be fitted without adapters.  

It also has a 12VDC ‘car style’ socket for powering low voltage items and a 5VDC USB connector so you can charge USB devices directly.

Parallel connection

The XL3500i can be connected in parallel to give you nearly twice the power output of 6kW. You will need a parallel kit so you have the larger sockets to get the full power.

This provides a high power, flexible solution. If your power needs are lower one day you can run one generator (quieter and less fuel) and the next you may have a higher power requirement so simply parallel the second unit in.

Do Inverter Generators have low emission engines?

The higher the generator, the bigger the engine – the XL3500i Excel Power Generator uses the 

SH150 149cc overhead valve engine which is emissions certified to Euro V standard. This is the best petrol engine emissions standard currently available. If a low carbon footprint is important to you then this generator is a step in the right direction.

Generators are used in some extreme environments such as emergency services, marine or building sites so the XL3500i inverter comes with a tough and durable case that will take knocks and stand up to being in the back of a van. 

It also features a 6 litre fuel tank to give a long time between fill-ups and this made longer by using the Eco-Mode that varies the engine revs depending on load. So the XL3500i goes quiet and uses less fuel when you have less equipment. Old-fashioned generators run at 3000rpm all the time which means they are noisy and use a lot of fuel all the time.
